The speed daily high point award on Sunday consists of High Point per Division as follows:

It is a numbers game, just like any other horse show. In order to be competitive, the more classes you ride in, the
better chance you have of winning a high point award.
Year End Saddles
The Exec Committee reserves the right to make changes to the Year End Prizes due to poor attendance or positive
changes due to additional sponsorship funds. We appreciate the membership help in assisting in obtaining
sponsorships. If you would like to add additional Year End High Points, for example, a High Point Halter, and can get
a sponsorship for that award, the committee will be happy to consider adding the award.
We award a saddle for the year end all-around, counting points from all shows for the year. Saddles are awarded in
the following divisions for performance:
13 and Under
14-18
19 and Over
We award a saddle for the year end all around ,counting points from all shows for the year. Saddles are awarded in
the following divisions for speed:
9-13
14-18
19-39
40 & Over
Because we must order our saddles prior to the end of the series we cannot guarantee a seat size. We will endeavor
to select appropriate sizes based on the age group of the division. There will be no exchange or reorder of seat size.
What is selected is what you will receive.
Novice Rider, 10 and Under Performance, Ranch Horse and 8 and Under Speed will have year end all around High
Points as well, but they are not awarded saddles.
There will be a Reserve Champion for all divisions. Executive Committee reserves the right to determine if that will be
Belt Buckles, Boot Certificates or other appropriate prizes.
Speed and performance points are separate. We will do our best to award Year End Prizes through at least 5th
place per division depending on the number of exhibitors per division for the year.
While it is not a requirement that you become a member of Rio Grande Valley Horse Show Association in order to
qualify for a daily high point award, it is a requirement in order to qualify for a year end award. Members pay $10 per
class, while non-members pay $15 per class. If an individual rides in multiple classes, it is more cost efficient to pay
the $20 individual/$35 family membership fee. To qualify for year end awards:
- Your membership ($20 individual or $35 family) must be paid by or at your first show
- You must have participated in at least four shows, three classes per show in performance. Novice Riders must show
in one halter division class.
- You must have ten hours documented volunteer work hours for the entire show circuit (6 shows). It's not difficult to
get them though, and direct family members can assist in fulfilling this responsibility on your behalf, work hours must
be signed in and approved by a show committee member. No work hours/no high point award.
Our age eligibility goes by birthday as of January 1 of the current year in which the season starts. We go by a "same
horse/same rider" concept.
Multiple riders may share a horse in appropriate classes such as Showmanship, Horsemanship, Trail or Equitation in
which each horse is judged individually and not in a group on the rail. Multiple riders may use a horse for High Point
as long as they are in separate divisions or age groups. Exhibitors may ride multiple horses, the points follow the
same horse same rider combination. Please contact the show committee for approval prior to the show beginning if
you have questions about High Point eligibility.
If your horse is injured and unable to be shown, with a signed vet certificate or letter stating the horse is unsound and
not able to participate, you may select a different horse to show. That certificate must be presented prior to showing
the replacement horse or your points on the original horse will not count. If your original horse is able to return to the
show, you must have a letter from your vet stating the horse is now able to participate.
